India’s celebrated leg-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, has unequivocally dismissed the accusations of infidelity leveled against him by his ex-wife, Dhanashree Verma, during a recent reality show. In a firm statement to Hindustan Times, Chahal asserted, ‘I am a sportsperson, and I do not cheat.’
The couple, who tied the knot in December 2020 in Gurugram, first crossed paths during the COVID-19 lockdown when Chahal enrolled in Dhanashree’s online dance classes. Their marriage, however, concluded when they jointly filed for divorce in a family court in February 2025, confirming they had been living separately since 2022. The Bombay High Court expedited their divorce by waiving the standard cooling-off period, finalizing the proceedings before the IPL 2025 season.
Chahal strongly questioned the validity of the claims, posing, ‘If someone had cheated within just two months, would the relationship have lasted this long?’ He reiterated his desire to put the past behind him: ‘For me, this chapter is over, done and dusted. I have moved forward with my life, and everyone else should too.’
He further elaborated on the duration of their relationship, stating, ‘Our marriage lasted four and a half years. If cheating had happened within two months, who would have continued? I’ve already said before that I’ve moved on from the past.’
Addressing those still dwelling on the issue, Chahal remarked, ‘Even now, many people are still holding on to that issue, and their household is still running in my name. They can continue doing that. I am not concerned or affected. And I have a feeling this is the last time I am addressing that chapter of my life.’
He concluded with a clear message: ‘I’ve moved on from this chapter. People say all sorts of things, and it spreads on social media. A hundred different stories start circulating, but the truth is only one, and those who matter know it. For me, that chapter is closed. I don’t want to address it ever again. I am focusing on my life and my game.’
