The Indian women’s cricket team, fresh off their historic ICC Women’s World Cup triumph in Navi Mumbai, is receiving a flurry of well-deserved accolades and rewards. Among the most unique gestures comes from Surat-based industrialist and Rajya Sabha member, Govind Dholakia. He has announced a special plan to gift each member of the championship-winning squad with beautifully handcrafted diamond jewelry and environmentally friendly rooftop solar panels for their homes.
Dholakia, known for his philanthropic endeavors, conveyed his intentions in a letter to BCCI honorary vice president Rajeev Shukla before the final match against South Africa. He stated that the diamond jewelry is a “token of appreciation for their brilliance and resilience,” while the solar panels symbolize “the light they bring to our nation continues to shine in their own lives as well.” He emphasized that this gesture acknowledges the players’ “courage, discipline, and determination,” and reflects a belief that “true success must uplift both people and the planet.” Dholakia is the founder and chairman emeritus of Shree Ramkrishna Exports.
Beyond Dholakia’s generous offering, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also declared a substantial ₹51 crore reward for the World champions. This comes in addition to the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) own contribution of ₹39.78 crore, showcasing a remarkable 297 percent increase from the 2022 edition’s prize money and highlighting the escalating global prominence of women’s cricket.
The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team etched their names in history on Sunday by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at the DY Patil Stadium, securing India’s first-ever Women’s World Cup title. Celebrations have been continuous since their momentous win. The team departed their hotel to jubilant cheers from fans and is now en route to New Delhi, where they are scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Adding to the celebratory visuals, Captain Harmanpreet Kaur was seen on Monday at the iconic Gateway of India, recreating MS Dhoni’s legendary 2011 World Cup-winning pose, a moment that quickly went viral across social media platforms.
