NEW DELHI: Teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi recently made a spectacular statement after being called up to the India A squad. In a Ranji Trophy clash against Meghalaya on Tuesday, he smashed a blistering 93 runs off just 67 balls.
The 17-year-old’s fiery innings, which included nine fours and four sixes, truly highlighted his aggressive and fluent strokeplay. He narrowly missed out on a well-deserved century, falling just seven runs short.
Suryavanshi was eventually dismissed by Meghalaya spinner Bijon Dey. Earlier in the match, Meghalaya had set a formidable first-innings total of 408/7 declared, with significant contributions from Ajay Duha (129) and Swastic (94).
Suryavanshi isn’t the only exciting talent joining the India A squad for the upcoming Rising Stars Asia Cup in Doha. IPL talent Priyansh Arya has also been selected for the team, which will be led by Jitesh Sharma.
The Rising Stars Asia Cup tournament will take place from November 14 to 23. India A has been placed in Group B alongside Oman, UAE, and Pakistan A. Group A consists of Bangladesh A, Hong Kong, Afghanistan A, and Sri Lanka A.
India A will begin their campaign against UAE on November 14, followed by a highly anticipated match against arch-rivals Pakistan A on November 16.
All eyes will once again be on Suryavanshi, who has already made history this year. He became the youngest centurion in men’s T20 cricket, scoring 101 runs for Rajasthan Royals against Gujarat Titans in the IPL. Furthermore, he also notched a century in the India U-19 Youth Test against Australia A in Brisbane just last month.
