India’s young batting sensation, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, has once again illuminated the cricket world, this time by smashing the fourth-fastest Youth Test century in history. His breathtaking 78-ball hundred came against Australia U19 at the Ian Healy Oval on Wednesday.
The 14-year-old left-handed batsman has joined an exclusive club, becoming only the second player after Brendon McCullum to register two U19 Test centuries in under 100 balls. His previous explosive performance was a 58-ball century last year against the very same Australian side in Chennai, which still stands as the second-fastest Youth Test ton ever, only surpassed by England’s Moeen Ali.
Suryavanshi’s dominant innings concluded at an impressive 113 runs off just 86 deliveries, featuring a spectacular display of eight sixes and nine fours, before he was eventually dismissed by Hayden Schiller. Indian teammate Vedant Trivedi also contributed significantly with a composed 140 runs from 192 balls.
Throughout his powerful batting display, the young Indian talent exhibited remarkable poise and self-assurance. Australian bowlers attempted to intimidate him with cold stares after every boundary or six, but Suryavanshi met their gaze with an even more aggressive response, consistently accelerating his scoring rate.
Just the previous week, Suryavanshi had already carved his name into the record books by setting a new benchmark for the most career sixes in Youth ODI cricket. During his impressive 70 runs off 68 balls against Australia U19 in Brisbane, his fourth six of the innings pushed him past Unmukt Chand’s record of 38 sixes from 21 matches. Astonishingly, Suryavanshi achieved this new milestone in just 10 innings and has since increased his total to an incredible 41 sixes.
Earlier this year, he blasted an incredible 143 runs off 78 balls against England U19, making him the youngest centurion in Youth ODI history. This monumental century was reached in a mere 52 deliveries, marking it as the fastest U19 Men’s ODI century ever recorded.
Suryavanshi’s meteoric rise isn’t confined to youth-level cricket. He garnered international attention with his IPL debut at an astonishing 14 years and 23 days old. Shortly after, he became the youngest centurion in IPL history with a sensational 35-ball hundred against the Gujarat Titans.
He concluded IPL 2025 with a total of 252 runs from seven matches, boasting a scorching strike rate of 206.56, an outstanding performance that earned him the coveted Super Striker of the Season award.
