The omission of Yashasvi Jaiswal from India’s squad for the 2025 Asia Cup immediately drew significant attention, igniting discussions among fans and cricket analysts alike. With Shubman Gill making his return as vice-captain and both Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson retaining their places, the 23-year-old opening batter was notably left out, despite his remarkable performances in international cricket.
Addressing his exclusion, Jaiswal maintained a calm and determined outlook, stating, “I don’t dwell on it. These decisions are entirely in the hands of the selectors, and they are made based on the team’s balance. I will continue to do everything within my power.”
Jaiswal’s track record speaks volumes: he has amassed 723 runs in 23 T20Is with an impressive strike rate of 164.31 and an average of 36.15, including one century and five half-centuries. His Test match statistics are equally compelling, with 2,209 runs in 24 matches at an average of 50.20, featuring six centuries and 12 half-centuries.
When questioned by Mashable India about staying motivated despite the Asia Cup setback, Jaiswal responded, “When my opportunity arises, everything will align. My sole focus is on continuous self-improvement and consistent hard work.” He further emphasized, “I’ve always believed that I would achieve something significant. I will never give up; I will just keep pushing myself.”
Recalling cherished personal achievements, Jaiswal spoke about the special moment when he scored a century in front of his parents during the England tour. He described it as “truly special,” underscoring how personal milestones ignite his passion for the sport.
Jaiswal also shared his team ambitions, stating, “My ultimate dream is to help the team win the World Cup. Our T20 World Cup victory in 2024 was incredibly special, and the welcome we received back home in India was unforgettable.”
Despite the recent Asia Cup disappointment, Jaiswal is slated to participate in India’s upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies, scheduled to commence on October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
