Jemimah Rodrigues delivered a performance for the ages, crafting an unbeaten 127 runs off 134 balls. Her exceptional innings spearheaded India’s record-breaking chase of 339, culminating in a spectacular five-wicket victory at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Virat Kohli took to social media after the match to praise the team’s grit and character.

“What an incredible victory for our team against a formidable opponent like Australia,” Kohli wrote. “The girls executed a brilliant chase, and Jemimah’s performance in such a crucial game was simply outstanding. This was a true showcase of resilience, belief, and unwavering passion. Fantastic effort, Team India!”

This message resonated deeply across the Indian cricketing landscape, reflecting immense admiration and pride for a team that successfully completed the highest run chase in the history of women’s One-Day International (ODI) cricket.

Rodrigues and captain Harmanpreet Kaur (who scored a vital 89 off 88 balls) forged a pivotal 167-run partnership for the third wicket. Their heroic stand pulled India out of early difficulties and brought them agonizingly close to making history. Crucial contributions from Deepti Sharma (24) and Richa Ghosh (26) then saw India cross the finish line with nine balls to spare, igniting joyous celebrations.

Earlier in the match, Australia had set a formidable target, posting 338 runs after choosing to bat first. Young opener Phoebe Litchfield impressed with a fluent 119 off 93 balls, while Ellyse Perry (77) and Ashleigh Gardner (65 off 45) significantly bolstered their total.

India is now set to clash with South Africa in the final on Sunday, guaranteeing that the 2025 Women’s World Cup will crown a new champion.
