The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a crucial ‘Cyclone Alert’ for the beautiful Andaman and Nicobar Islands. This warning comes as a cyclonic circulation has formed over the Bay of Bengal, with forecasters predicting it will intensify significantly starting November 4, 2025.
According to a senior IMD official, this developing weather system, characterized by a low-pressure area, first appeared over the east-central Bay of Bengal and near the Myanmar coast on November 2, around 8:30 a.m.
Experts indicate that the cyclonic circulation currently extends up to 5.8 km above sea level. It is expected to track northward, then shift northwest, moving along and off the coasts of Myanmar and Bangladesh over the next 48 hours.
The department warns residents and visitors to prepare for squally weather, with surface wind speeds potentially reaching up to 55 kmph across the North Andaman Sea. As the system strengthens from November 4, sea conditions are projected to become increasingly rough and hazardous.
In response to this serious alert, local authorities have issued a clear directive: fishermen must not venture into the North Andaman Sea or its surrounding waters. Furthermore, all boat operators, island residents, and tourists are urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid any form of recreational activity at sea during this period.
