The BCCI Medical Team confirmed that Sudharsan’s injury is not serious and he is “doing fine” under continued monitoring. The incident occurred during a spectacular moment on Day 2 when Sudharsan displayed exceptional fielding skills at short leg, pulling off a stunning catch to dismiss West Indies opener John Campbell off Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling. This crucial dismissal helped India secure an early breakthrough.
Following his remarkable catch, social media was abuzz with posts highlighting Sudharsan’s agility and his diligent practice sessions with T. Dilip for short-leg catches.
Earlier in the match, India had declared their first innings at a commanding 518/5, featuring centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill. Sudharsan himself made a significant contribution with the bat, forming a strong 243-run partnership with Jaiswal after KL Rahul’s dismissal for 38. Sudharsan scored 87 runs before being dismissed by Jomel Warrican, while Jaiswal’s impressive innings of 175 ended due to a run-out mix-up with Shubman Gill.
Other valuable contributions included 49 runs from Nitish Kumar Reddy and 44 from Dhruv Jurel. Shubman Gill remained unbeaten on 129, becoming only the second Indian captain after Virat Kohli to achieve five centuries in a single calendar year.
For West Indies, Warrican emerged as the most successful bowler, taking three wickets, with captain Roston Chase claiming one. India’s innings lasted 134.2 overs, and the team currently holds a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, having triumphed in the first Test in Ahmedabad.
