Indian cricket star Smriti Mandhana has once again ascended to the pinnacle of women’s ODI batting, securing the world number one spot in the latest ICC rankings. This remarkable achievement comes after her impressive half-century performance against Australia, officially announced on Tuesday.
During the first match of the three-game series held in Mullanpur, Mandhana showcased her exceptional form by scoring a swift 58 runs off just 63 balls. Despite her stellar individual effort, Australia ultimately claimed a comfortable victory, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
This significant rise in the rankings provides a tremendous morale boost for Mandhana and the entire Indian team, especially as they gear up for the highly anticipated Women’s Cricket World Cup, set to commence on September 30.
Mandhana’s impactful half-century added seven crucial rating points to her tally, propelling her four points clear of England’s formidable Nat Sciver-Brunt, who now occupies the second position.
Currently, Mandhana boasts an impressive 735 rating points, narrowly surpassing Sciver-Brunt’s 731.
This isn’t Mandhana’s first taste of the top spot; she initially achieved the number one ODI batter ranking in 2019 and has now recaptured this elite position for the second time in 2025.
Other Indian players also saw their rankings improve. Opening batter Pratika Rawal climbed four places to 42nd after contributing 64 runs, while Harleen Deol moved up to 43rd position with her 54 runs in the same match against Australia.
For Australia, Beth Mooney moved up three spots to fifth place after her unbeaten knock of 77. Her teammates Annabel Sutherland and Phoebe Litchfield also made significant gains, both reaching 25th position after their respective half-centuries were instrumental in securing their team’s eight-wicket triumph.
On the bowling front, Australia’s Kim Garth and Alana King celebrated reaching their career-best ODI rankings, securing the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
Indian spinner Sneh Rana also advanced five places to 13th after claiming a wicket in the first ODI. Meanwhile, England’s Sophie Ecclestone firmly holds her reign as the world’s top-ranked bowler.
