Australia’s national T20 squad for the upcoming series against India will see a fresh face: New South Wales leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha. This exciting call-up comes as star spinner Adam Zampa temporarily steps away from the opening match due to personal reasons concerning his wife’s pregnancy.
Cricket Australia officially announced on Monday that Sangha would be joining the team in Canberra, just in time for Wednesday’s first T20 encounter at Manuka Oval.
The 23-year-old leg-spinner last showcased his talent in a T20 international during 2023, where he impressively secured 10 wickets across seven matches, maintaining an average of 24.90. His standout performance included a career-best 4-31 against South Africa in Durban.

Sangha’s recent form has been nothing short of spectacular. He led the One-Day Cup wicket-takers list for the New South Wales Blues, snatching 10 dismissals at an impressive average of 14.10. His excellent spell continued during Australia’s recent tour of India, where he bagged seven wickets in three List A matches held in Kanpur.
Zampa, who is eagerly awaiting the birth of his second child, had previously missed the ODI series opener against India in Perth as a precautionary measure. His understandable absence has now opened the door for Sangha to make his mark on the T20 stage.
