Ravindra Jadeja, India’s esteemed all-rounder, once again proved his mettle by smashing his sixth Test century during Day 2 of the opening Test against West Indies in Ahmedabad. The vice-captain’s impressive knock came off 168 deliveries, featuring six fours and five sixes, and he remained unbeaten on 104 at stumps.
This commanding performance was part of a crucial 206-run partnership with wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel, who also marked his maiden Test century with a fluent 125. Their combined effort propelled India to a dominant total of 448 for five, establishing a significant 286-run lead after West Indies were bowled out for 162.
Former India opener Aakash Chopra was among the many who lauded Jadeja’s remarkable display. Taking to social media, Chopra declared, “Jadeja is the undisputed World’s Number 1 Test All-Rounder. The one aspect that’s not celebrated enough is his fitness. He hasn’t lost any pace or sharpness on the field. Running between the wickets etc. He’s rarely injured too. Incredible player.”
Chopra’s comments resonated widely with fans, who echoed the sentiment that Jadeja’s consistent fitness and all-round capabilities, with both bat and ball, are often undervalued despite his match-winning contributions.
This century in Ahmedabad also placed Jadeja in an exclusive club. He became only the sixth cricketer in history to achieve six or more Test hundreds alongside taking over 300 wickets. This elite list includes cricketing legends such as Kapil Dev, R Ashwin, Ian Botham, Imran Khan, and Daniel Vettori.
With Jadeja continuing his formidable presence at the crease, alongside Washington Sundar (9*), India is poised to build an unassailable advantage in the match.
