Tensions are high in Bihar’s Mokama Assembly constituency following the alleged shooting death of Dular Chand Yadav, a political figure associated with the Jan Suraaj Party. Yadav was actively campaigning for his nephew, Piyush Priyadarshi, who is the party’s candidate for the Mokama seat. The constituency is already experiencing a closely watched electoral contest, with prominent politicians from major parties involved.
According to family accounts, Dularchand was fatally shot and subsequently run over by a vehicle while participating in campaign activities in Basavanchak village. Supporters of Priyadarshi have accused supporters of a rival candidate, Anant Singh, of orchestrating the attack. They claim that Singh’s convoy was followed by Priyadarshi’s, and that an assault with sticks and rods ensued, resulting in damaged vehicles.
Anant Singh has refuted these allegations, pointing fingers at another former MP, Suraj Bhan Singh, and stating that his own vehicles were also vandalized. He suggested that the incident was orchestrated by Surajbhan Singh, with whom Dularchand had a prior association.
The incident has led to a significant increase in security presence across Mokama. Following Yadav’s death, his supporters gathered at the scene. Authorities have ensured tight security during the post-mortem examination of Dular Chand Yadav in Barh, with police actively working to prevent any retaliatory actions or further violence. Preliminary investigations are ongoing, and the exact cause of death will be confirmed after the medical examination.
