Chhattisgarh Security Forces Gain Ground, Maoist Leader Calls for Surrender

October 18, 2025
in National
Reading Time: 2 min

In a significant development within Chhattisgarh’s Naxal-affected regions, a senior Maoist leader has issued an open appeal to cadres to surrender and embrace mainstream life. This call comes in the wake of substantial gains made by security forces, which have reportedly dealt a severe blow to the Naxalite network. The letter highlights the growing ineffectiveness of armed struggle due to sustained pressure from security personnel, internal organizational issues, and missed opportunities.

The Superintendent of Police in Gariaband, Nikhil Rakhecha, confirmed the authenticity of the letter, which was attributed to Maoist leader Sunil of the Udanti Area Committee. SP Rakhecha has extended an invitation to all active Naxal members to surrender, assuring them of a safe return to their families and a peaceful life.

The Udanti Area Committee, active along the Chhattisgarh-Odisha border, has reportedly seen key members like Sonu Dada and Rupesh lead large groups in surrenders. Sonu Dada, in particular, is reported to have released a booklet detailing his realization that the armed campaign is no longer viable, urging a shift towards addressing public grievances through peaceful means. This sentiment has been echoed by the Udanti Area Committee, which is encouraging other units to follow suit.

The state’s efforts to become Naxal-free by March 31, 2026, appear to be gaining momentum. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai noted that in the past 22 months, 477 Naxalites have been neutralized, while over 2,110 have surrendered and 1,785 have been arrested. The recent mass surrenders, including a large group led by Rupesh in Bastar, underscore the effectiveness of the security forces’ aggressive strategies in reclaiming Naxal strongholds across Chhattisgarh.
