Mohammed Siraj’s Playful Warning to Justin Greaves Unexpectedly Fuels West Indies Batting in Test Match

Mohammed Siraj, India’s star fast bowler and the leading wicket-taker in Tests this year, showed his famously jovial side during Day 4 of the second Test against West Indies at Arun Jaitley Stadium. As India pushed to wrap up the innings, a lighthearted exchange between Siraj and West Indies batsman Justin Greaves quickly became a talking point among fans.

Before the crucial 10th-wicket partnership between Greaves and Jayden Seales began to flourish, Siraj playfully “warned” Greaves, seemingly encouraging him to not score any more runs. This amusing interaction, caught on camera, spread rapidly across social media, with fans appreciating Siraj’s ability to keep the mood light even in a high-pressure match situation.

However, Greaves, undeterred by the friendly banter, went on the offensive, hitting freely and eventually reaching a well-deserved half-century. His resilient partnership with Seales helped the West Indies lower order add vital runs, pushing their total to 390 after being forced to follow on. India now needs to chase 121 runs to secure a decisive victory and seal the two-match series.

Siraj’s exceptional form with the ball has been a highlight this year. Earlier in the same session, he cemented his status as the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket for 2025, surpassing Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani. He achieved this significant milestone by dismissing Shai Hope for 103 runs during the second session, marking his 37th wicket of the year.

Throughout 2025, the dynamic pacer has featured in eight Tests, delivering 1,575 balls (262.3 overs) and claiming 37 wickets at an impressive average of 26.91. His season also includes 39 maiden overs, 996 runs conceded, and notable performances with two four-wicket hauls and two five-wicket hauls. His personal best figures for the year stand at an outstanding 6/70, boasting a strike rate of 42.56.

The playful moment between Siraj and Greaves

The West Indies had commenced their second session at 252/3, with Shai Hope and Roston Chase holding firm. Hope elegantly completed his century off 204 balls but was soon dismissed by Siraj. Following this, Kuldeep Yadav quickly added two more wickets, sending Tevin Imlach and Roston Chase back to the pavilion and concluding the session with figures of 3/79.

Even as the West Indies tailenders bravely resisted, Siraj’s infectious light-heartedness stood out, offering a glimpse into his vibrant personality both on and off the cricket field.
