Kallakurichi Collector M.S. Prasanth led an important review meeting at the Collectorate on Wednesday, focusing on the district’s readiness for the upcoming Northeast monsoon season.
This gathering brought together various departmental heads to assess their specific preparations and identify areas within the district that are particularly susceptible to monsoon-related challenges.
During the meeting, Mr. Prasanth instructed officials to pinpoint all vulnerable zones and establish clear safety guidelines. He also stressed the importance of clearing any encroachments on water bodies, inlets, and canals, ensuring a sufficient supply of sandbags for immediate deployment.
Furthermore, he urged revenue officials to proactively warn residents in low-lying areas and along riverbanks about potential risks.
Each department received directives to develop detailed emergency response plans for monsoon emergencies, which include managing infrastructure damage. Close collaboration between the revenue, local bodies, and public works departments was highlighted as crucial for an effective response.
Officials were also tasked with confirming the availability of vital equipment for rescue and relief efforts, such as earthmovers, tree-cutting tools, various vehicles, diesel generators, additional sandbags, motor pumps, and inflatable boats.
