Fresh off their historic win at the DY Patil Stadium, India’s World Cup-winning women’s cricket team is preparing for a special meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led squad secured their first-ever global title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in Sunday’s final, ending India’s long wait for a major championship in women’s cricket.
Currently in Mumbai, the champions will soon travel to the national capital for their anticipated meeting with the Prime Minister, scheduled for Wednesday.
After the team’s spectacular triumph, Prime Minister Modi took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to congratulate them. He hailed their performance in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals as “spectacular,” praising their exceptional skill, confidence, teamwork, and tenacity throughout the tournament. Modi expressed his belief that this historic victory would inspire future generations of athletes.
Meanwhile, discussions are ongoing at the administrative level regarding further celebrations. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to finalize plans for a grand victory parade to commemorate this monumental achievement. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia stated that no parade is currently planned, as many senior officials are heading to Dubai for ICC meetings from November 4 to 7. Decisions regarding felicitation ceremonies and parade plans will be made upon their return.
To acknowledge the players and support staff for their incredible feat, the BCCI has already announced a significant cash reward of ₹51 crore. Saikia emphasized the immense impact of the victory, saying, “Harmanpreet Kaur and her team haven’t just won a trophy; they’ve won the hearts of all Indians.” He further described the win as “a new dawn” for women’s cricket across the nation.
