India’s young cricket prodigy, Abhishek Sharma, put on a breathtaking display at the Asia Cup 2025, delivering back-to-back match-winning performances against arch-rivals Pakistan. His impactful innings began in the league stage with a quickfire 31, followed by a spectacular 74 runs off just 39 balls in the Super 4s encounter.
Sharma was particularly aggressive against Pakistan’s premier pace bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi. He smashed 22 runs off Afridi, including two towering sixes and two boundaries, leaving the bowler reeling. In their second clash, Abhishek continued his onslaught, hitting powerful shots all over the ground and dominating Afridi once again.

Following India’s emphatic Asia Cup victory, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s official social media accounts posted a video playfully trolling Afridi. The clip featured Afridi confidently stating, “I am Pakistan’s premier fast bowler,” juxtaposed with scenes of Sharma effortlessly dispatching his deliveries to all parts of the stadium.
Abhishek’s exceptional performances weren’t just celebrated on the field; they also made history in the latest ICC T20 International Rankings, which were released on Wednesday.
He soared to a career-high of 931 rating points, setting a new record in ICC T20I history. This incredible achievement surpassed the previous best of 919 points held by England’s Dawid Malan since 2020.
The 25-year-old left-handed batsman, who was deservedly named Player of the Tournament, maintained an astonishing strike rate of over 200 throughout the Asia Cup. He also outranked his esteemed teammates Suryakumar Yadav (912 points) and Virat Kohli (909 points) in the updated ratings.
Since his international debut last year, Abhishek has accumulated an impressive total of 314 runs at an average of 44.85 across seven Asia Cup matches.
He currently holds a significant lead of 82 rating points over England’s Phil Salt, while fellow Indian cricketer Tilak Varma occupies the third spot with 213 runs scored in the tournament.
With his formidable blend of power, precise timing, and consistent scoring, Abhishek Sharma has undeniably cemented his reputation as one of the most dynamic and promising batsmen in contemporary T20 cricket.
