NEW DELHI: India’s cricketing heroes were met with rapturous fan celebrations as they returned home following their impressive Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 triumph over archrivals Pakistan. Head coach Gautam Gambhir and spinner Kuldeep Yadav landed in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, just a couple of days after India secured a thrilling five-wicket victory at the Dubai International Stadium. The arrival of Gambhir and Yadav sparked scenes of ecstatic fans taking to the streets, waving flags, and cheering loudly. Social media was abuzz with images and clips showing supporters lining up to welcome the victorious contingent, celebrating India’s unbeaten run in the tournament, which included seven wins and three victories over Pakistan.
These celebrations precede Team India’s shift in focus to the upcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies. The first Test is set to begin on October 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, with the second scheduled from October 10 at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, forming part of the 2025-27 ICC World Test Championship cycle.
Meanwhile, India captain Suryakumar Yadav touched down in his hometown Mumbai on Monday evening, accompanied by his wife. Reports indicated Surya’s departure from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport in a black SUV, as fans cheered from afar.
The tournament itself was notable not only for India’s exceptional on-field performance but also for off-field developments, including the team’s decision regarding the Asia Cup trophy presentation involving ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi. Other Mumbai-based players, including Shivam Dube, have also returned to their home cities. The core Test squad, along with Gambhir and the support staff, are already in Ahmedabad, intensifying their preparations for the longer format.
These triumphant returns underscore India’s current dominance in T20 cricket. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and the entire squad have been widely praised for their composure under pressure and for completing the Asia Cup undefeated. As Ahmedabad and Mumbai bask in these celebratory moments, the cricketing fraternity now eagerly looks forward to the Test series, hopeful that Team India can carry this formidable momentum into the longer format of the game.
