Dinesh Karthik (Video grab)
In anticipation of the thrilling Asia Cup 2025 final at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, former India wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik shared his peculiar pre-match ritual – a personal superstition he believes brings good fortune to the Indian team.
In a video released before the highly anticipated match against arch-rivals Pakistan, Karthik elaborated on his unique habit: “India has played the 2024 World Cup final and the Champions Trophy final. There’s one thing I’ve consistently done, and it’s turned into a bit of a superstition. Today, for the Asia Cup final, India vs Pakistan – let’s go, let’s go, let’s go! I admit, I’m not doing a perfect job ironing, but the key isn’t perfection; it’s the act itself. The good news is, whenever I’ve ironed on the day of a final, India has won.”
Karthik revealed that this quirky ritual originated during his playing days in the West Indies. “I started this because when I was there, they mentioned laundry would take three days to return, and the final was on the same day. So, I took matters into my own hands. Here in India, if I send it out, it’ll be back in ten minutes, but I still feel compelled to do it myself. Alright, Team India, all the best! I’ve played my part. Now it’s your turn to go out there and dominate!” he enthusiastically added.
Team India enters this high-stakes final as strong favorites, boasting an unbeaten record with six consecutive wins in the tournament. This includes two decisive victories over Pakistan: a seven-wicket win in the group stage and another six-wicket triumph in the Super Fours.
Karthik’s superstition, having aligned with victories in previous World T20 and Champions Trophy finals, adds a delightful and humorous element to the pre-match anticipation. Both fans and players will undoubtedly be hoping this unique ritual once again casts its spell, propelling India to clinch the Asia Cup 2025 trophy.
