Dubai: Ravichandran Ashwin, renowned for his strategic mind and formidable skills, is gearing up for a dynamic new phase in his career. Having concluded his IPL journey as an ‘explorer of the game across leagues,’ Ashwin is now firmly set to join the International League T20 (ILT20).
ILT20 CEO David White confirmed these exciting developments in an exclusive interview with TimesofIndia.com, stating, “We’re having very positive conversations with Ashwin, and hopefully, we’ll have positive news in the near future.”
White emphasized the immense value Ashwin would bring to the league, highlighting his unique blend of talent and wisdom. “If we can have a player of his stature, it would be huge. He is a world-class, generational talent, boasting over 500 Test wickets, an outstanding ODI and T20I career, and an incredible cricketing brain. He’s a charismatic figure, an intellect of the game. If he plays in the ILT20, we will be delighted,” White expressed with enthusiasm.

Ashwin himself has openly discussed his interest in exploring dual roles that combine playing with coaching responsibilities. When questioned about the ILT20’s openness to such an arrangement, White responded, “I think we’re very open to anything like that. Not only his playing and coaching, but also his analytical skills. He has his own media company, which he’s working on. He’s a very clever guy. We would welcome all aspects.”
White conveyed strong confidence in Ashwin’s participation, adding, “We hope to get him. Let’s see what happens. Very positive for the moment.”
Ashwin’s intentions became clear last month when he announced his retirement from the Indian Premier League (IPL). He then signaled his ambition to venture into various overseas T20 leagues.
In a heartfelt message on X, Ashwin shared, “Special day and hence a special beginning. They say every ending has a new start. My time as an IPL cricketer comes to a close today, but my time as an explorer of the game around various leagues begins today.”
Ashwin concludes his illustrious IPL career as the league’s fifth-highest wicket-taker, securing 187 scalps from 221 matches at an impressive economy rate of 7.2.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin clarified his approach, saying, “Of course, I won’t be playing everywhere for 10 months. Whatever each team’s requirements are, and the ones I satisfy, I’ll play in those leagues. I’ve already registered for one, so let’s see how that pans out.”
