Young cricketer Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s popularity is soaring, attracting large crowds eager to witness his thrilling batting performances. He consistently reciprocates this adoration with genuine gestures, as beautifully demonstrated during Bihar’s recent Ranji Trophy match against Arunachal Pradesh at Patna’s Moin-ul-Haq Stadium.
Following Bihar’s decisive innings-and-165-run victory, hundreds of enthusiastic fans gathered, hoping for a glimpse of their local star. The 14-year-old cricketing sensation approached the boundary ropes, smiling and waving, as the crowd erupted in cheers and chants of ‘Jai ho Bihar ke lala’. Suryavanshi graciously responded to their heartfelt applause with folded hands, a traditional gesture of respect.
Although the left-handed batsman scored a modest 14 runs, dismissed by Arunachal’s Yab Niya in his first Ranji Trophy match of the 2025 season, the excitement surrounding him remained palpable. Recognizing his immense potential, Bihar has appointed Suryavanshi as vice-captain for their opening two matches this season, with Sakibul Gani captaining the team.
After a challenging winless campaign last season, which saw them relegated to the Plate Group, Bihar’s cricket team is now pinning its hopes on promising young talents such as Suryavanshi for a strong comeback. Hailing from Patna, this remarkable cricketer made his Ranji debut at the tender age of 12 during the 2023–24 season, swiftly climbing through the ranks.
His meteoric rise continued at 13 when he secured an Indian Premier League (IPL) contract with Rajasthan Royals for the 2025 season, making him the youngest player ever to do so. He further etched his name in history by scoring a sensational 35-ball century against Gujarat Titans, marking the second-fastest hundred in IPL history and making him the youngest male cricketer to achieve a T20 century at just 14 years old.
Suryavanshi’s availability for Bihar throughout the entire season remains uncertain, as he is a strong contender for India’s Under-19 World Cup squad, which is scheduled to tour Zimbabwe and Namibia early next year.
