The East Corporation, operating within the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA), has issued a firm directive to its engineering teams: take decisive action against unauthorized constructions. This new mandate sets an ambitious target of demolishing at least one illegal building per week in each of its eight divisions, leading to a total of eight weekly demolitions across the entire jurisdiction.
These stringent instructions were delivered by Additional Commissioner for Development, Snehal Sudhakar Lokhande, during a recent coordination meeting.
Mr. Lokhande further directed officials to meticulously categorize all civil works within the corporation’s boundaries into three distinct groups: completed projects, ongoing initiatives, and works yet to commence.
To enhance oversight and transparency, a digital, color-coded map will be developed to visually represent the current status of these projects.
In a move to strengthen accountability, senior corporation officials, including the Commissioner, Additional Commissioners, and the Chief Engineer, are scheduled to begin daily inspections of all wards. These inspections will follow a fixed schedule, allowing for close monitoring of development activities and the timely issuance of necessary directives.
Additionally, Mr. Lokhande announced that a workshop will soon be organized for all engineers. This session aims to clarify technical and administrative protocols for the newly formed Engineering Department, which is now responsible for overseeing arterial and sub-arterial roads, major thoroughfares, lakes, and storm-water drains at the divisional levels.
During the meeting, officials were also instructed to diligently document the progress of road and pothole repair works using designated platforms such as BTP Astram, Raste Gundi Gamana App, and Sahaaya App. Details of all completed works are to be uploaded for efficient online monitoring.
