In a significant stride towards strengthening social welfare, the Social Justice department recently unveiled its brand-new office complex in Alappuzha. This inauguration was a key part of the department’s 50th-anniversary celebrations, during which Minister for Social Justice, Dr. R. Bindu, proudly announced the launch of an impactful new initiative: the ‘Anbu’ campaign.
The ‘Anbu’ campaign is conceived as an intensive, statewide endeavor aimed at fostering the development and enhancing the well-being of children facing intellectual challenges. Speaking at the inauguration ceremony held at the Alappuzha Collectorate compound, Dr. Bindu reiterated the department’s commitment to prioritizing schemes specifically designed for these children. She also highlighted broader initiatives planned to raise public awareness about the unique difficulties encountered by them, their families, and all individuals with disabilities across society.
Further elaborating on upcoming programs, the Minister revealed the impending launch of the ‘Prejodhanam’ scheme. This program will concentrate on delivering essential skill development and vocational training tailored for individuals with intellectual challenges. In addition, a new scheme is set to provide vital short-term accommodation facilities for these children and their family members, offering crucial respite and support.
The event also served as a platform to honor beneficiaries of the department’s ‘Pariraksha’ scheme, with financial assistance personally distributed by Dr. Bindu. A particularly touching moment was a keyboard performance by Muhammed Yaseen, an inspiring individual who has admirably overcome physical limitations. The ceremony was further enriched by cultural programs presented by students from various special schools and residents of welfare institutions within the district, showcasing community talent and spirit.
This modern office complex, covering an area of 3042.39 square feet, represents a substantial investment of ₹1.28 crore in critical social infrastructure. The function was presided over by H. Salam, MLA, signifying strong local governmental support for these vital social justice initiatives.
