In a touching display of hospitality, an Australian woman currently residing in Mumbai has captured the internet’s attention with her story about a remarkably kind Uber driver. Bree Steele, a podcaster and content creator who has been living in India since 2023, shared a video on Instagram highlighting the driver’s selfless act. Titled “Uber drivers in India are next-level icons,” the video recounts how Steele’s 15-minute Uber ride turned into a nearly two-hour ordeal due to severe traffic congestion during the Chhath Puja celebrations.
Despite being stuck for around 30 minutes at one spot, the driver went out of his way to ensure Steele’s comfort. He not only fetched bottled water for her but also refused any payment, stating, “You are our guest.” As the traffic continued its slow crawl, the driver’s generosity didn’t stop there. He made a second trip out of the car to bring back kebabs and drinks, ensuring neither of them went hungry.
Steele expressed her deep appreciation for the driver’s actions, noting that this was one of many kind encounters she’s had with drivers in the city. She humorously added that while she wasn’t aware of the Chhath Puja traffic chaos, her best stories in India often seem to involve an Uber driver.
The video quickly went viral, eliciting numerous positive comments from viewers who praised the driver’s gesture and India’s tradition of “Atithi Devo Bhava” (Guests are like God). Many lauded the driver as a true ambassador of Indian hospitality.
