Hyderabad’s law enforcement agencies delivered a major blow to drug peddling networks recently, with the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (HNEW) and Charminar Police conducting a joint operation on September 25th. Their efforts led to the arrest of a 46-year-old man and the seizure of hydroponic marijuana, other cannabis, cash, and various related materials totaling ₹4 lakh in value.
The individual apprehended was identified as Ali Bin Hamid, who resided in Habib Nagar, Nampally, and was currently living in P&T Colony, Suncity, Bandlaguda Jagir. Investigations revealed that Hamid, facing severe financial difficulties and unemployment, allegedly turned to illicit drug dealing. He reportedly peddled hydroponic marijuana and other forms of cannabis, acquiring them through contacts, including a key supplier known by the aliases Captain, OG Bro, or Farhan.
Investigators uncovered the methods of this operation: Hamid obtained the drugs through ‘dead drops’ or via local peddlers. He would then meticulously package the substances into smaller sachets before distributing them throughout Hyderabad. Orders for these illicit drugs were reportedly facilitated through social media by Captain, while Hamid was responsible for both deliveries and collecting payments.
The proceeds from these sales, whether collected in cash or received through online transactions, were then funneled to Captain’s associates, Maaz and Moiz. These transactions typically occurred at a garment shop located in Gulzar Houz, from where the money was eventually channeled back to the primary supplier.
During the successful operation, authorities confiscated 45 grams of hydroponic marijuana, 2 kilograms of cannabis, a mobile phone, a scooter, and a significant sum of ₹1,03,500 in cash.
In light of this arrest, the HNEW has issued a public appeal, urging parents to closely monitor their children’s activities. They also encourage anyone with information regarding drug abuse or trafficking to report it to their dedicated helpline.
