A recent post on ‘X’ by Congress MP Manish Tewari, discussing Generation Z-led uprisings in India’s neighboring countries, quickly escalated into a heated verbal exchange with the ruling BJP, drawing focus to domestic political issues.
On September 23, 2025, Tewari shared his perspective, suggesting that the recent governmental shifts in Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Nepal – all fueled by protests from younger generations – underscore a clear message: “entitlement is no longer acceptable to Gen X, Y, Z.”
In his extended social media commentary, Tewari highlighted a pattern: “The toppling of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa in Sri Lanka in July 2023, Sheikh Hasina in Bangladesh in July 2024, K.P. Sharma Oli in Nepal in September 2025, and now the protests against Ferdinand Marcos Jr in the Philippines, all share a common theme: ENTITLEMENT IS NO LONGER ACCEPTABLE TO GEN X, Y, Z.” He further hinted at an upcoming analysis, stating, “Watch for my piece on ‘The Social Media Trends that toppled or are challenging ‘DYNASTS’. Study #nepokids or #TrillionPesoMarch in the meantime.”
The BJP swiftly interpreted Tewari’s remarks as a veiled jab at the Gandhi family’s enduring leadership within the Congress party. Amit Malviya, the BJP IT cell convener, labeled Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition, as the “ultimate ‘Nepokid’ of Indian politics.” Adding to the criticism, Puri MP Sambit Patra asserted that Indian voters had already rejected such “nepokids” in the 2014 elections.
In a direct response on ‘X’, BJP IT cell convener Amit Malviya highlighted Tewari’s affiliation with the G-23 rebel group within Congress, arguing that Tewari was implicitly criticizing Rahul Gandhi. Malviya’s post claimed, “Senior Congress leader Manish Tewari, member of the G-23 rebel group, takes aim at Rahul Gandhi – the ultimate ‘Nepo Kid’ of Indian politics. Forget Gen Z, even Congress’s own veterans are fed up with his regressive politics. The revolt is now from within.”
Sambit Patra further elaborated on the BJP’s stance, stating, “The people of India are spiritual and awakened. They demonstrated this in 2014 itself. Indians do not resort to street protests for such matters; they act decisively and in a disciplined manner at the opportune moment. That’s why they removed the ‘Nepo kid.’ Today, that ‘Nepo kid’ holds no power, and nothing is going to change now.”
Tewari, known for his association with the G-23 rebel faction within Congress that has previously challenged the party’s leadership, retorted that his comments were being misconstrued. He asserted that his observations transcended a simple Congress-versus-BJP debate, carrying significant national security implications for India.
He expressed frustration, stating, “Gosh, I just wish that some people would grow up in life. Everything doesn’t have to be dumbed down to a ‘Congress-BJP, he said-she said’ argument, or targeting individuals. The events unfolding in South Asia and East Asia have profound national security implications, and it’s crucial to understand their underlying causes from the correct perspective.”
