A distressing incident unfolded in Tirupati late Saturday night when a bike taxi rider allegedly engaged in misconduct with a female passenger. The suspect, identified as Peddaiah, is reportedly an MBA student who worked part-time for a ride-sharing service.
Alipiri police reported that the woman had booked a ride with Peddaiah during the late hours. After reaching her home in a secluded area on Renigunta Road, the driver allegedly behaved inappropriately. Her screams alerted her husband and neighbors, who quickly intervened, apprehending and physically assaulting the driver before turning him over to the authorities.
Alipiri Circle Inspector P. Ramakishore, who was on night patrol, swiftly took Peddaiah into custody. A one-year bindover order was subsequently issued by the local Tahsildar, mandating that the accused refrain from similar offenses in the future.
In response to the alarming event, Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu issued a strong warning to anyone contemplating misconduct against women.
The Superintendent of Police also provided essential safety tips for female passengers: always note down the driver’s name and vehicle details, share this information with family, and keep live location tracking active throughout the journey. Furthermore, the SP recommended opting for female drivers, especially for night travel, as an added safety measure.
