A truly memorable moment unfolded in Bengaluru during the Dr K. Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament when Arjun Tendulkar, the son of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, claimed the wicket of Samit Dravid, whose father is none other than the great Rahul Dravid. This captivating encounter marked a unique generational clash in Indian cricket. Representing the Goa Cricket Association against KSCA Secretary’s XI, Arjun Tendulkar delivered an outstanding bowling performance, finishing with figures of 3 wickets for 50 runs in 17 overs, showcasing his burgeoning talent.

Arjun, who is set to celebrate his 26th birthday soon, wasted no time making his presence felt. He struck early in the match, sending KSCA XI captain Nikin Jose back to the pavilion for a duck in the third over. The promising left-arm pacer, who plays for Goa, maintained his impressive form throughout the day’s play, demonstrating consistency and control.

Nineteen-year-old Samit Dravid, fresh off earning a place in Karnataka’s Ranji Trophy probables for the upcoming season, walked in at number five. His team was in a precarious position, having lost three wickets for just 91 runs. After navigating 23 deliveries, he faced off against Arjun Tendulkar, setting the stage for their much-talked-about duel.

Despite hitting a boundary early in his innings against Tendulkar, the young Dravid’s stay at the crease was short-lived. He was eventually dismissed by Arjun for a modest 9 runs from 26 balls, ending the highly anticipated father-son legacy face-off.

By stumps on Monday, the KSCA XI had reached 245 runs for the loss of eight wickets.

Earlier in the game, the Goa team had set a challenging target, posting 338 runs in their first innings. During Goa’s batting, Samit Dravid also made his mark with the ball, picking up 2 wickets for 18 runs from his nine overs.

The match also saw the participation of experienced Karnataka batter Karun Nair, whose place in the Indian Test squad for the upcoming West Indies series is currently under scrutiny. Unfortunately for Nair, he had a brief stint at the crease, scoring only 3 runs off 21 balls before being dismissed by his former Karnataka teammate, V Koushik, who now plays for Goa.

Samit Dravid’s involvement in this tournament follows his recent non-selection for the U-19 World Cup. The promising young talent has been diligently working on his game, especially after recovering from a prolonged injury layoff that began in mid-2024.
