His blistering innings, featuring a 24-ball half-century – the fastest ever by an Indian against Pakistan – set the perfect tone for India’s dominant display at the Dubai International Stadium. After reaching his half-century, Sharma blew kisses towards his family in the stands before forming the ‘L’ gesture with his hand. This intriguing celebration immediately sparked widespread curiosity and speculation among fans and commentators.
Post-match, Sharma clarified the meaning behind his action. In a video shared by the BCCI, he explained to captain Suryakumar Yadav, “This is love, it is a celebration for those who support the Indian team. This is for India.”
The 25-year-old expressed that the presence of his family made the evening even more significant. “It is very special because I feel their record is going very well for me. Whenever they come, we have won the game one-sidedly. Even today, we won the contest one-sidedly. It is a special feeling when family members come,” he remarked.
During their conversation, Sharma also spoke about a touching connection between his performance and his father, Raj Kumar Sharma. “Today I remembered my dad because of the way you were standing and saying take one run, he used to do the same, sitting in front of the sight screen. That’s where I pay the most attention to. I am used to it, and you asked me two to three times to push for a single,” Abhishek shared with Suryakumar.
Abhishek Sharma’s explosive batting and his heartfelt, patriotic celebration combined to create an unforgettable night for him, his family, and Indian cricket fans worldwide.
