The Government Taluk Hospital in Thuravoor is buzzing with activity as its impressive new six-storey building enters the final stages of construction. This significant development promises to elevate healthcare standards in the region.
Officials have confirmed that an impressive 91% of the work is already complete. This expansive 6,374.81 square meter facility, being built on 62 cents of land, represents a substantial investment of ₹51.40 crore, funded through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).
Upon its grand opening, the new structure will house a range of advanced, high-tech amenities. These include a dedicated trauma care unit, a modern gynaecology wing, three state-of-the-art operation theatres, a comprehensive CT scan center, an X-ray unit, and capacity for 150 inpatient beds. Strategically located alongside National Highway 66, this upgrade is set to establish the hospital as one of Alappuzha district’s premier government medical institutions.
The journey for this ambitious project began in September 2019 with the laying of its foundation stone. Currently, teams are focused on crucial finishing touches, including painting, intricate aluminium partition installations, and sanitary fitting work. The goal, as expressed by officials, is to complete the building this year and proudly open its doors to the public. The Kerala State Housing Board is meticulously overseeing the construction efforts.
Further demonstrating the commitment to improving local healthcare, the State government recently allocated an additional ₹2 crore in its last Budget. This funding is specifically earmarked for acquiring more land and constructing a new mortuary building at the taluk hospital, ensuring comprehensive and dignified care.
