NEW DELHI: Following their historic ICC World Cup triumph, the BCCI has confirmed that no grand victory parade for the Indian women’s cricket team has been finalized yet. Secretary Devajit Saikia announced this on Monday.
The Indian women’s team dramatically ended their long wait for a major title on Sunday, securing their first-ever ICC World Cup. They achieved this by defeating first-time finalists South Africa by 52 runs at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium. This victory signals a new era for Indian cricket, though fans might need to be patient for a public celebration.
“Nothing like a victory parade is planned as of now,” Saikia stated from Mumbai airport. He explained, “I’m heading to Dubai for ICC meetings, and several other senior officials will also be there. Once we all return, we will make appropriate plans.”
These crucial ICC meetings, taking place from November 4–7 in Dubai, will keep many of the BCCI’s key personnel occupied. Afterward, the board is anticipated to outline the official celebrations, which may include a special felicitation ceremony for Harmanpreet Kaur’s victorious team.
Saikia further confirmed that the BCCI intends to address the issue of the missing Asia Cup trophy with the International Cricket Council. He added, “We will bring up the Asia Cup trophy matter with the ICC and hope to retrieve our trophy with the respect and honor it deserves.”
In recognition of the women’s team’s incredible achievement, the BCCI has announced a significant cash prize of Rs 51 crore for the players, coaches, and support staff. Saikia lauded the triumph, stating, “Harmanpreet Kaur and her team haven’t just won a trophy, they’ve won the hearts of all Indians,” and hailed it as “a new dawn” for women’s cricket in India.
