Rishabh Pant, the dynamic Indian wicketkeeper-batsman, brought his signature infectious energy to the field during the India A vs South Africa A match held at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. The stump mic, as always, was there to capture his animated and often hilarious pep talks to his bowlers, reminding everyone why he’s considered one of modern cricket’s most entertaining personalities.
Leading the India A squad, Pant was frequently heard offering a blend of humor and confidence-boosting advice to the spin duo of Tanush Kotian and Manav Suthar.
At one point, he was overheard telling Tanush, “Jyada fielder nahi hai off-side mein (There aren’t many fielders on the off side). Daalte rah apna koi nahi (You keep bowling on the same length). Thodi der dande pe daal koi problem nahi hai (Try and bowl on the stumps). Maarne do (Let him hit). Theek hai theek hai tang mat ho, relax hoke daal (It’s okay, don’t get riled up, just relax).” He continued, encouraging the bowler, “Shabash (Very good). Rhythm pakadne ko dekho, aa jayega ek do over mein.. pareshan mat ho (Try and find your rhythm, you will get the wicket in one or two overs, don’t stress too much).”
Later, Pant turned his attention to left-arm spinner Manav Suthar, motivating him with his characteristic lively tone. “Arre bhai yahi hai yahi hai, 6 ball daal ke dikhao zara maza aayega (This was good, now bowl six balls like this on the trot),” he chirped, which drew chuckles from the players in the slip cordon.
These matches are pivotal for Pant, who is on his journey back to top-flight cricket after sustaining a foot injury during the fourth Test against England in June. Having spent extensive time at the rehabilitation facility at the Centre of Excellence, the 28-year-old is focused on regaining his form, accumulating runs, and securing valuable game time at this batting-friendly venue against a relatively inexperienced bowling attack.
