In a chilling turn of events, a forensic science student, reportedly fascinated by crime shows, and her ex-boyfriend, an LPG distributor, are accused of meticulously planning and executing a murder in Delhi’s Timarpur. They allegedly staged the crime scene using ghee and alcohol to simulate a fire, hoping to mislead investigators.
The incident, which occurred on October 6, came to light recently with the police unveiling disturbing details and announcing arrests. Authorities revealed that the murder was motivated by revenge, stemming from allegations that the victim, a UPSC aspirant, had recorded obscene videos of the female suspect and over 15 other women.
The Deadly Plan Unfolds
The crime began in the early hours of October 6 when police responded to a call about a fire in a fourth-floor apartment in Gandhi Vihar, Timarpur. Upon arrival, they discovered a severely burnt body. Initially, a case was registered concerning negligent conduct with fire, pending further forensic analysis.
However, suspicions arose when the victim’s family members questioned the circumstances of the fire. CCTV footage from the vicinity showed two individuals entering the building before the fire and one woman leaving shortly before it erupted. Investigators identified the woman as the victim’s 21-year-old live-in partner, a BSc forensic science student.
The investigation revealed that the woman had approached her ex-boyfriend, an LPG distributor, after a falling out with her current partner. The dispute reportedly involved her discovering intimate videos that her partner refused to delete and allegedly even spread humiliating false stories about her.
Exploiting Expertise for Murder
Fueled by a desire for revenge, the woman, her ex-boyfriend, and an accomplice allegedly conspired to kill the victim and destroy evidence. Leveraging her knowledge of forensic science and her ex-boyfriend’s familiarity with gas cylinders, the woman devised a plan to make the murder appear accidental.
According to police sources, on the night of October 5, the trio entered the victim’s apartment. They allegedly strangled and beat him before dousing the body with oil, possibly ghee, and alcohol. The ex-boyfriend, with his expertise in handling LPG cylinders, then set up the scene. “He knew how to manipulate the gas cylinder. They opened the regulator and ignited the fire using a lighter, leaving the cylinder near the victim’s head… about an hour later, the cylinder exploded, and the body was completely charred,” a police official stated.
Evidence and Arrests
A crucial piece of evidence found was a hard disk from the victim’s flat, containing videos of over 15 women. Forensic experts are currently examining the contents to identify the individuals and determine if the videos were recorded with their consent.
The suspects were apprehended shortly after. The woman was arrested on October 18 from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, followed by the ex-boyfriend on October 21, and their associate on October 23. Authorities also recovered the hard disk, a trolley bag, the victim’s shirt, and two mobile phones during the investigation.
