In a notable shift within the leadership of Indian cricket, V Chamundeswaranath has been appointed as the new players’ representative on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Apex Council. This key role was previously held by the esteemed former India captain, Dilip Vengsarkar.
Adding to these significant administrative changes, former India women’s team captain Shubhangi Kulkarni has taken over Vengsarkar’s position on the IPL Governing Council. Kulkarni previously served on the Apex Council as the women’s nominee, highlighting a continued push for inclusive representation within the sport’s governing bodies.
Dilip Vengsarkar successfully completed his three-year term on the Apex Council, which began in 2022. The recent Indian Cricketers’ Association (ICA) General Elections, held on October 15 and 16, paved the way for these new appointments.

A historic milestone was also achieved during the ICA elections, with former India women’s team captain Shantha Rangaswamy being elected as the first-ever female president of the ICA.
The ICA released a statement emphasizing the progressive nature of these results: “This election marks a notable moment for the ICA, with two women now serving on the ICA Board, and for the first time, a female president and a female nominee to the IPL Governing Council — reflecting the Association’s commitment to inclusive representation and progressive leadership.”
