Unbelievable Commentary Blunder: Pakistan Captain Mistaken for India’s Skipper During Test Match – Video Goes Viral

During the nail-biting Test match between Pakistan and South Africa, a moment of unintentional hilarity unfolded in the commentary box, instantly becoming a viral sensation. Former South African skipper Shaun Pollock, while on air, mistakenly identified Pakistan’s captain, Shan Masood, as the ‘captain of India’. This slip-up occurred amidst fervent crowd anticipation for Babar Azam’s return to the crease after his absence from the Asia Cup 2025.

The incident took place on Day 1 of the first Test at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium. Pakistan was in their first innings, with Shan Masood and Imam-ul-Haq steadily building a partnership following an early wicket. They eventually put on an impressive 161-run stand for the second wicket. The image shows Pakistan’s Shan Masood batting.

Pollock observed the unusual crowd behavior—cheering with every South African appeal for a wicket. It became clear the spectators were eager to see Babar Azam, who was making his comeback to international cricket after sitting out the Asia Cup 2025.

Reacting to this peculiar atmosphere, Pollock quipped on air, “I can’t believe they would want Shan Masood, the captain of India, to be out just to get Babar to the crease. Think we need to have a word with these supporters.”

The commentary gaffe spread like wildfire across social media, with fans sharing clips and adding their own humorous remarks to Pollock’s momentary confusion.

Masood’s valiant innings eventually concluded when he was dismissed for 76 by Prenelan Subrayen in the 48th over. His departure finally paved the way for Babar Azam, who was greeted by thunderous chants of ‘Babar, Babar’ echoing throughout the stadium.

Returning after a significant period away from the national squad, Babar Azam scored 23 runs off 48 deliveries before being bowled out by Simon Harmer in the 60th over.

This Test match held particular significance for Pakistan, following their recent journey to the Asia Cup 2025 final, where they were defeated by India. Notably, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan were absent from Pakistan’s T20I squad during the Asia Cup, as the team opted for a more aggressive batting lineup.

The game at Gaddafi Stadium marked the first Test encounter between Pakistan and South Africa, with both teams keen to establish an early lead in the series.
