The Hilarious Lip Balm Moment: KL Rahul and Shubman Gill’s Viral On-Field Banter

The second Test between India and West Indies at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium wasn’t solely about fierce cricketing competition; it was also punctuated by delightful, lighthearted moments on the field. The atmosphere was truly vibrant, thanks to everything from Ravindra Jadeja cracking jokes to Yashasvi Jaiswal engaging in playful chats with Shubman Gill, and Kuldeep Yadav’s enthusiastic wicket celebrations.

One particular incident during West Indies’ first innings stood out for its comedic timing. KL Rahul, positioned at slip, was seen casually pulling out a lip balm from his pocket and applying it. Just a few yards away, Shubman Gill approached him, initiating a laugh-out-loud exchange that thoroughly entertained both his teammates and the cheering fans.

India had already established a dominant lead in the series, securing a resounding innings and 140-run victory in the first Test held in Ahmedabad, setting an impressive standard for the visiting team.

Meanwhile, Gill, in only his second match leading India’s Test side, continued his sensational form. On the second day in Delhi, the 26-year-old smashed a brilliant century, marking his fifth Test hundred as captain. Since taking over the captaincy from Rohit Sharma, runs have flowed effortlessly from Gill’s bat, highlighting his incredible purple patch against the Caribbean team.

This remarkable run includes Gill’s five centuries in his debut year as captain, a feat unmatched by any other player. He also equaled Virat Kohli’s record for the most Test centuries as a captain in a single calendar year, a milestone Kohli achieved in both 2017 and 2018.

Furthermore, Gill achieved his fifth red-ball century in just his 12th innings as captain, surpassing many legendary players. Only Alastair Cook (nine innings) and Sunil Gavaskar (10 innings) reached this milestone faster. In terms of matches, Gill accomplished this in seven Tests, putting him on par with the legendary Don Bradman, while Cook (five matches) and Gavaskar (six matches) reached it quicker.

Throughout this consistent and prolific purple patch, Gill boasts an astonishing batting average of 84.81. This places him second only to Don Bradman’s incredible 101.51 among captains who have led their teams in at least seven Test matches.
