Young Indian batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal once again demonstrated his exceptional talent, scoring a magnificent 175 runs off 258 deliveries during India’s first innings in the second Test against West Indies at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. The 23-year-old left-hander appeared destined for a double century, but an unfortunate mix-up with his captain, Shubman Gill, led to his premature dismissal. Despite not reaching the double-hundred mark, Jaiswal’s innings, adorned with 22 boundaries, highlighted his increasing consistency and maturity at the highest level.

Following the conclusion of play on Day 2, Jaiswal engaged in a conversation with the host broadcaster. During this interaction, the iconic former India captain, Sunil Gavaskar, couldn’t resist sharing some encouraging, albeit witty, advice. After commentator Harsha Bhogle praised Jaiswal’s batting, Gavaskar interjected with his characteristic charm.
“I just want to add to that. Well done, keep it up. Keep getting the hundreds. Daddy hundreds, but because I am a grandfather, I’ll say keep getting granddaddy hundreds,” Gavaskar said, a remark that left Jaiswal momentarily speechless but undoubtedly inspired.
This particular innings marked the fifth occasion in Jaiswal’s burgeoning Test career where he surpassed the 150-run mark. This achievement places him in an exclusive club, alongside the likes of Graeme Smith, as one of the youngest players to achieve such a feat before turning 24. Had he managed to convert this score into a double century, it would have been his third in Tests, adding to the two he recorded during the 2024 series against England.
With his remarkable composure, exquisite shot-making, and a clear hunger for long innings, Jaiswal is rapidly establishing himself as one of India’s most promising young talents. His performances continue to garner significant acclaim, not only from cricket enthusiasts but also from celebrated legends like Gavaskar himself.
