In a significant breakthrough, the Yelanakha police have arrested a seven-member gang responsible for a sophisticated robbery in September, where they masqueraded as ‘enforcement wing’ officials to steal valuables worth more than ₹1.5 crore.
Dressed in formal suits, the culprits forcibly entered the Vinayaka Nagar residence of Giriraj Kumar, where he lived with his family. Posing as investigators, they terrorized the family before fleeing with ₹1.5 crore in cash and 50 grams of gold ornaments.
Following an intensive investigation, authorities successfully tracked and apprehended the gang members, identified as Shankarappa, Rajendra Jain, Hemanth Jain, Srinivas Gowda, Jagan Mohan, Srinivas, and Kiran Jain.
So far, the police have recovered ₹1.27 crore in cash from the arrested individuals. An eighth suspect remains at large, with efforts underway to locate him. The arrested individuals are reportedly businessmen and real estate agents from both Bengaluru and Andhra Pradesh.
Investigations revealed that Shankarappa, one of the key conspirators, had worked as a driver for Professor Kumar. He allegedly discovered that the professor had recently sold property and was holding a substantial amount of cash at home for a new purchase. This information was then shared with his associates in the real estate sector, leading them to devise the elaborate robbery plan.
Executing their scheme, the gang arrived at the professor’s home in a car, presenting themselves as official enforcement personnel. Under the guise of investigating ‘unaccounted money,’ they proceeded to seize the cash and other valuable items.
City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh commended the diligent efforts of the police team, announcing a cash reward for their successful operation in bringing the perpetrators to justice.
