Udayagiri, a challenging and remote Assembly segment within the Nellore Lok Sabha constituency, is on the brink of a significant community milestone: the grand launch of ‘VPR Netra.’ This pioneering program, spearheaded by the VPR Foundation and championed by Member of Parliament Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy, aims to provide essential eye care services to the underprivileged, offering free screenings, diagnoses, and immediate provision of spectacles.
The formal inauguration of this crucial project will take place in Varikuntapadu mandal on Monday, with Mr. Prabhakar Reddy, accompanied by his spouse Vemireddy Prasanthi Reddy (Kovur MLA) and Udayagiri MLA Kakarla Suresh, leading the ceremony.
It’s worth noting that Udayagiri has previously been chosen by the foundation for the launch of its impactful ‘VPR Amruthadhara’ scheme, which established 170 drinking water plants across the district, as well as a project that distributed 950 electric tricycles to individuals with disabilities, underscoring the region’s priority in their philanthropic efforts.
About VPR Netra
The ‘VPR Netra’ program is built around a cutting-edge mobile clinic, a bus meticulously transformed at a cost of ₹3 crore. This state-of-the-art facility is equipped with advanced tools such as a lensometer, vision LED chart, AR machine, and integrated lens cutting and grinding machines. Patients will have access to spectacles from fifteen different brands.
Addressing the media, Mr. Prabhakar Reddy emphasized that “All tests will be completely free, and patients will receive their new spectacles within minutes of diagnosis.” Udayagiri MLA Mr. Suresh expressed his gratitude to the MP for selecting his constituency for such a prestigious and beneficial initiative. The foundation plans to progressively expand this vital scheme to other constituencies in the future, extending its reach and impact.
