Yashasvi Jaiswal’s phenomenal journey in Test cricket shows no signs of slowing down! The young opening batsman recently delivered a spectacular performance, scoring 175 against the West Indies in the second and final Test at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium. This remarkable innings solidifies his position as one of India’s most promising batting talents.
His masterful innings was a perfect blend of composure, precision, and graceful strokeplay—qualities that have quickly become synonymous with his style. After a solid 58-run opening partnership with KL Rahul, Jaiswal then forged an impressive 193-run stand with B Sai Sudharsan. Although Sudharsan was dismissed for a commendable 87, Jaiswal continued his relentless scoring, well on his way to yet another century.
Beginning with a measured approach, Jaiswal steadily built his confidence, expertly dispatching loose balls and rotating the strike effortlessly. He reached his century in commanding fashion, eventually passing 150 runs for the fifth time in a mere 26 Test matches. His stellar performance concluded on the morning of Day 2 when he was unfortunately run out for a brilliant 175.
Among those captivated by his display was former Indian cricketer Mohammed Kaif, who shared his admiration on social media. Kaif remarked, “Yashasvi is a batsman with the patience to score massive hundreds and establish new benchmarks. In his initial 26 matches, his statistics rival those of cricketing giants like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. His centuries consistently pave the way for India’s victories. It’s Yashasvi who will break Virender Sehwag’s 300-run record.”

This significant century also holds a special place in cricket history. It marks Jaiswal’s seventh Test hundred before the age of 24, a remarkable achievement surpassed by only three players: the legendary Don Bradman (12), Sachin Tendulkar (11), and Garfield Sobers (9). This places him in an elite club, alongside other cricketing icons like Javed Miandad, Graeme Smith, Alastair Cook, and Kane Williamson, who also tallied seven centuries at the same young age.
Indeed, since Jaiswal’s debut in Test cricket, his consistent brilliance has largely defined India’s opening batting. During this period, he has notched up seven centuries all by himself, while all other Indian openers collectively managed a total of six. Globally, in the same timeframe, England’s Ben Duckett is the next most prolific opener with four centuries, highlighting Jaiswal’s exceptional output.
Adding to his list of accomplishments, the 23-year-old also achieved a significant milestone earlier in the innings: he completed 3,000 international runs in just 50 matches. This makes him only the fourth Indian left-handed opener to reach this landmark, following in the footsteps of cricketing greats Sourav Ganguly, Gautam Gambhir, and Shikhar Dhawan.
