Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh recently delighted fans by sharing a lighthearted moment on Snapchat, playfully teasing his India A teammate, Abhishek Sharma. The banter followed a tough day for Sharma during an unofficial ODI series against Australia A, where he suffered a rare “golden duck” dismissal.
“Well played. Today, you struggled a bit,” Arshdeep jovially remarked to a visibly disappointed Abhishek, who responded, acknowledging that he hadn’t truly “played” at all. In a moment of mock despair, Abhishek pulled a towel over his head, prompting further playful jabs from Arshdeep, who quipped, “Your doppelganger came to play today.” Another teammate was also heard playfully begging, “please don’t give him zero,” underscoring the friendly and supportive atmosphere within the squad.
During the match, India A managed a total of 246 runs in 45.5 overs, largely thanks to impressive contributions from Tilak Varma, who scored 94, and Riyan Parag, with 58 runs. However, Abhishek Sharma was unfortunately dismissed on his first ball by Australia A captain Jack Edwards, who had a strong performance, taking 4 wickets for 56 runs, including the crucial wickets of Abhishek, Tilak, and captain Shreyas Iyer.
Beyond the cricket pitch, Abhishek connected with a significant personal event. Unable to attend his sister Komal Sharma’s wedding due to his national duties, the 25-year-old joined the celebrations virtually via video call. He later shared a heartwarming screengrab on social media, expressing his joy with the caption, “Happy married life my favourites,” accompanied by affectionate heart and hug emojis. He also posted a video reel showcasing highlights from the intimate Amritsar wedding, which his sister subsequently shared on her Instagram.
Komal, speaking to the media, shared her emotions: “It feels amazing. This is such a great day for me, I am tying the knot today. I am very happy and excited. I am missing my brother.”
Despite his on-field disappointment, Abhishek’s thoughtful efforts ensured he was still a part of his family’s joyous occasion. This incident beautifully illustrates the considerable personal sacrifices professional cricketers often make when their national commitments coincide with important family events.
