The family of Assam’s revered cultural icon, Zubeen Garg, has officially lodged a complaint with the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), urging a thorough investigation into his tragic drowning death in Singapore.
Manoj Kumar Borthakur, Garg’s uncle and a signatory to the complaint, confirmed to PTI that the request was sent to the CID via email on Saturday. “We are seeking a meticulous probe into the events that led to his death,” Borthakur stated.
Garg’s wife, Garima, and his sister, Palme Borthakur, are also signatories on the complaint, emphasizing the family’s collective call for answers.
A senior police official confirmed the receipt of the family’s complaint and assured that it is being carefully examined. He added that the CID’s Special Investigating Team (SIT) is already looking into the incidents surrounding the singer-composer’s death on September 19 in Singapore, and the family’s complaint will be integrated into their ongoing efforts.
Furthermore, a SIT team visited Garg’s residence in the Kahilipara area of Guwahati on Sunday, September 28, 2025. “We had certain questions that needed addressing, and our officers met with the family. Their statements are currently being recorded as part of the inquiry,” the official added.
