In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the mysterious death of Assamese cultural icon Zubeen Garg, three more expatriates from Singapore presented themselves before the Guwahati police on Monday, October 13, 2025. This appearance follows a second notice issued to them by the authorities, a senior official confirmed.
Officials anticipate further cooperation, stating that more Assamese non-resident Indians (NRIs) residing in Singapore are expected to arrive within the next two days to provide their statements to the Assam Police.
The individuals who reported to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) headquarters this morning were identified as Jiolangsat Narzary, Parikshit Sharma, and Siddhartha Bora. Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Special Director General of Police, Munna Prasad Gupta, also mentioned that another expatriate, Bhaskar Jyoti Dutta, is slated to join the proceedings later today.
Interrogations with the initial three expats have already commenced, and the police are now awaiting the arrival of the fourth individual to proceed with their questioning, Gupta stated.
These recent arrivals are part of a larger group of ten individuals associated with the Assam Association Singapore who received fresh summonses after failing to respond to an earlier deadline of October 6, 2025.
Previously, only one Assamese resident from Singapore, Rupkamal Kalita, had complied with the summons, undergoing an extensive interrogation exceeding 24 hours before being released.
Addressing the six individuals who have yet to respond to the police notices, Mr. Gupta expressed optimism, noting, “We are hoping that a few more people will appear before us in the next 48 hours.”
The investigation centers on the untimely and mysterious death of the beloved singer, who passed away in Singapore on Friday, September 19, 2025, while swimming in the sea. Garg had traveled to the Southeast Asian nation to participate in the 4th edition of the North East India Festival.
A dedicated Special Investigation Team (SIT) from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Assam Police is spearheading the probe, initiated after over 60 First Information Reports (FIRs) were filed across Assam concerning Garg’s death.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently announced on Sunday, October 12, 2025, that investigators have uncovered a “definite angle” in Zubeen Garg’s death, following the receipt of the crucial viscera report.
Following a second post-mortem examination performed at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Garg’s viscera samples were dispatched to the Central Forensic Laboratory (CFL) in Delhi for thorough analysis.
An initial autopsy was conducted in Singapore shortly after his death, while a second post-mortem was carried out at GMCH on September 23, prior to his cremation.
The Chief Minister also confirmed that Singaporean police had requested “vital information” pertinent to the singer’s death in the island nation, which the Assam government promptly provided.
To facilitate the investigation, the Indian Government had previously invoked the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore, ensuring collaborative efforts in uncovering the circumstances of the singer’s demise.
Several individuals have already been apprehended in connection with the case, including North East India Festival chief organizer Shyamkanu Mahanta, the singer’s manager Siddharth Sharma, and band members Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and Amrit Prabha Mahanta. Additionally, Garg’s cousin and Assam Police DSP Sandipan Garg was arrested last month. The singer’s personal security officers (PSOs), Nandeswar Bora and Prabin Baishya, were also taken into custody after significant financial transactions, exceeding ₹1.1 crore, were discovered in their accounts. All seven individuals currently remain in police custody as the investigation progresses.
