In a significant development concerning the mysterious death of singer Zubeen Garg, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has made a public appeal to individuals of Assamese origin who were present on the yacht during the singer’s last moments. Sarma stated that the Assam Police are unable to conduct investigations in Singapore due to jurisdictional limitations. Addressing reporters in Guwahati after meeting Garg’s family, Sarma emphasized that for the inquiry to be complete, eyewitnesses from the yacht trip must come forward. “Our entire concern now is whether the people living in Singapore will come or not. If they do not come, we will not be able to complete the inquiry. They were the main people behind the yacht trip,” he was quoted as saying by news agency PTI. Sarma further clarified that Assam Police cannot travel to Singapore to investigate, and without the cooperation of those present, it would be impossible to piece together the facts. To ensure a thorough and independent investigation, the Assam government has established a judicial commission. This commission will be headed by Soumitra Saikia, a sitting judge of the Gauhati High Court, providing a platform for anyone with information to come forward and share it. Sarma noted that this is the first instance in Assam where a sitting judge has been entrusted with such an inquiry, expressing hope that the investigation will bring all facts into the public domain. Zubeen Garg passed away on September 19 in Singapore while attending the 4th edition of the North East India Festival. Meanwhile, amidst questions surrounding the circumstances of Garg’s death, his bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami alleged that the singer was poisoned in Singapore, citing official documents. Following these allegations, the Assam Police have charged the singer’s manager, Siddharth Sharma, and the festival organizer, Shyamkanu Mahanta, with murder. Both have been arrested. The police have also handed over the second post-mortem report to Garg’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, who has deferred making it public, stating that the investigators would decide on its release.
