The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) is ramping up its fight against the illegal liquor trade, directly accusing the ruling coalition government and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leaders of jeopardizing public health by allowing widespread distribution of fake alcohol. As a powerful statement, the party plans to organize demonstrations in front of Excise offices across all constituencies on Monday, October 13.
Following clear instructions from former Chief Minister and party president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, YSRCP members, leaders, and activists will present formal memorandums to local Prohibition and Excise authorities. Their core demand is immediate intervention to halt the flow of counterfeit liquor. These protests are expected to draw a significant crowd, underscoring the public’s deep concern over the increasing number of fatalities linked to toxic alcohol.
The YSRCP is also pushing for urgent investigations by the CBI into the illicit liquor trade. They’ve called on the Excise Department to conduct thorough and widespread inspections of all wine shops, permit rooms, bars, and unauthorized ‘belt shops’ throughout the state. The goal is to uncover and dismantle the organized networks behind this illegal activity. Additionally, the party is demanding accountability for any irregularities in liquor shop licensing, the removal of unqualified operators, and a return to government-controlled management of liquor sales.
Further demands include reducing the operating hours for liquor sales, revoking licenses for establishments located too close to schools, religious sites, and other public areas, and providing crucial support to families devastated by alcohol-related deaths. The YSRCP has issued a stern warning: if the coalition government continues to disregard these critical issues, the health and safety of Andhra Pradesh citizens will remain in grave danger.
In a statement released on Sunday, YSRCP leaders reiterated their unwavering resolve to continue these protests until concrete and effective measures are put in place to tackle the hazardous problem of fake liquor and ensure the protection of public health throughout Andhra Pradesh.
