Majji Srinivasa Rao, who serves as both the Vizianagaram Zilla Parishad Chairperson and the district president for the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), made a significant announcement on Sunday. He declared that the party would organize extensive protests this coming Monday, October 13th, across every Assembly constituency in the district. The purpose of these demonstrations is to vehemently oppose the Andhra Pradesh government’s contentious proposal to privatize its medical colleges.
During a press conference, Mr. Rao articulated the YSRCP’s strong concerns, stating that privatizing medical colleges would inevitably jeopardize the provision of free healthcare services for economically disadvantaged patients. He highlighted that each government medical college is intrinsically linked to a super-specialty hospital, playing a crucial role in public health. He further asserted the party’s firm stance against the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, characterizing it as a deliberate effort to transfer valuable government-owned institutions into the hands of corporate hospital chains.
In a call for broader solidarity, Mr. Srinivasa Rao earnestly appealed to the leaders and activists of all political parties to set aside differences and actively participate in the scheduled agitation. He also encouraged widespread involvement in the ongoing signature campaign, emphasizing the collective need to resist this privatization initiative.
