Perambra police have arrested two United Democratic Front (UDF) workers and filed a case against one for allegedly assaulting officers at the police station. The incident reportedly occurred when V.P. Dulkhifil, the Youth Congress (YC) State general secretary, along with Youth League district president Mishab Keezhariyur, visited the station on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
They were there to see UDF workers who had been taken into custody after a clash erupted in Perambra on October 10. When police officers denied them entry, a heated altercation ensued, during which two policemen were injured and subsequently hospitalized. Charges were then registered against Mr. Dulkhifil.
Meanwhile, District Principal Sessions Judge V.S. Bindukumari has granted anticipatory bail to eleven UDF activists previously implicated in the October 10 clash. Other UDF workers who were in remand custody have also been released on bail.
During the anticipatory bail hearing, the court critiqued the police for their apparent negligence in handling grenades during the original clash. M. Sheheer Singh, the defense advocate, argued that the entire confrontation was a reaction to the alleged police brutality against Member of Parliament, Shafi Parambil. Mr. Singh also highlighted that the Kozhikode Rural Superintendent of Police had yet to fulfill his promise of identifying the officers involved in the alleged assault on Mr. Parambil within 15 days.
