Kumari Lalita Anapur, the dedicated chairperson of Yadgir’s City Municipal Council (CMC), recently led a comprehensive cleaning drive across the city. This initiative aimed to enhance urban cleanliness and foster a healthier, more pleasant environment for everyone.
Joined by sanitation workers (pourakarmikas) and various officials, Ms. Anapur personally surveyed numerous streets, tackling issues like accumulated garbage and overgrown weeds along roadsides. Efforts began with clearing weeds from the road divider, stretching from Ambedkar Circle to the Church near the tahsildar’s office, setting a strong example for community participation.
In a proactive move, Ms. Anapur had previously encouraged residents to actively participate by submitting GPS-tagged photos of neglected garbage spots. This appeal proved successful, with many citizens sharing images from various wards via a dedicated WhatsApp group. “Upon receiving these photos, we promptly dispatched teams to clean the areas and shared ‘after’ photos on social media, demonstrating our immediate response,” Ms. Anapur shared.
The CMC’s commitment extends beyond aesthetics, addressing critical health concerns. They highlighted the frequent reports of animals suffering illnesses after ingesting plastic carry bags, underscoring the severe environmental impact of plastic waste.
In a compelling video message, Ms. Anapur passionately urged citizens to adopt eco-friendly habits. She specifically requested everyone to switch to cloth bags for groceries and other daily essentials, moving away from harmful single-use plastics.
“Protecting our environment is a collective responsibility,” Ms. Anapur emphasized. “The CMC deeply values public engagement in safeguarding nature.” She further stated that the council is keen on promoting tree-planting initiatives, encouraging residents to contribute to a greener Yadgir.
