During a World Tourism Day event in Dharwad, Karnatak University Vice-Chancellor A.M. Khan emphasized the crucial need to prioritize eco-tourism initiatives. He stressed that these projects are vital for fostering sustainable development across various sectors.
The Vice-Chancellor delivered his address after officially inaugurating the World Tourism Day celebrations, which were meticulously organized by the Department of Tourism Studies at Karnataka Arts College, held within the esteemed Bhuvana Vijaya auditorium.
Prof. Khan also highlighted the immense career potential within the tourism sector, encouraging young people to consider professional courses in tourism studies. He underscored how such choices could significantly contribute to their bright futures.
Given the rapid expansion and abundant opportunities within the tourism industry, Prof. Khan specifically implored students of tourism to diligently cultivate strong professional skills, preparing them for success in this dynamic field.
Adding to the discourse, Shreeji Kurup, Director of the Centre for Environment Education in Ahmedabad, presented an insightful talk titled “Tourism for a Sustainable Transformation.”
Mr. Kurup reiterated the pressing need to enhance our focus on ecotourism, viewing it as a powerful vehicle for achieving broader sustainable development goals.
He further elaborated that elevating India’s stunning beaches to international standards, coupled with robust social and environmental education, is absolutely essential for driving sustainable growth nationwide.
Additionally, Mr. Kurup emphasized the vital role of environmental journalism in educating the public and championing the sustainable development of India’s beautiful coastal areas.
A significant highlight of the event was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Coastal Marine Blue Flag India, an initiative of the Centre for Environment Education, and the Department of Tourism Studies at Karnataka College. This agreement paves the way for exciting academic collaboration.
To celebrate the day’s spirit, students who excelled in various competitions held during the World Tourism Day festivities were recognized and rewarded with cash prizes and well-deserved certificates.
