Residents of Kerala can look forward to a significant reduction in rainfall activity starting this Friday. Major weather systems that have been influencing the region—a depression over the Arabian Sea and a well-marked low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal—are now moving away from the state’s coast.
According to a weather bulletin released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday, the Arabian Sea depression is continuing its trajectory away from Kerala. Concurrently, the low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a depression within the next 12 hours, positioned off the north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts. This system is then projected to traverse across north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and the southern Andhra Pradesh coasts in the subsequent 12 hours.
However, before the overall reduction, a yellow alert has been declared for Thursday, October 23, 2025, for nine specific districts in Kerala: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod. These areas should be prepared for isolated heavy rainfall. By Friday, the intense rain is expected to become largely confined to the northern regions of Kerala.
